Badminton’s Dubey Advances to IHSA State Tournament

ELMHURST – Sophomore Tisha Dubey won three straight singles matches at York High School on Thursday to advance to the IHSA state tournament.

Waubonsie finished in a second-place tie with Lyons Township and behind first-place York.

Dubey won her opening round match over York’s Mia Koenigsberger, 21-12, 21-3. She then defeated Lyons’ Julia Senffner, 21-9, 21-7. In the sectional championship, Dubey swept York’s Delaney Butterly, 21-9, 21-10.

Manju Balaji won her first-round match over East Aurora’s Daisy Rios.

In doubles, Baskaran and George won their opening round match and one match in the consolation bracket. Ahlert and Buchenauer won a consolation bracket match.

Dubey will be the 11th-seed in the state finals tournament, which takes place Friday and Saturday at DeKalb High School.
