Girls Basketball Advances to Regional Final

OSWEGO – The 2nd-seeded Warriors defeated 15th-seeded Oswego, 67-43, in the first round of the IHSA Tournament on Monday night.

The Panthers lead for most of the first quarter before the Warriors came back to lead 21-16 after a Danyella Mporokoso half court shot at the buzzer. From there, the Warriors never looked back, leading 37-24 at halftime.

Mporokoso scored 20 points, and Maya Cobb had 17 points coming off the bench. Arie Garcia had 10 points, Hannah Laub finished with 8 points and Lily Newton added 7 points.

The Warriors improved to 28-3 on the season and became the second winningest team in the program’s history. The 1999 team won 30 games.

Waubonsie Valley advances to take on 7th-seeded Downers Grove South on Thursday night for a 7:00 tipoff at Oswego East High School.
