AURORA, IL – Waubonsie Valley’s boys swimming team has had a difficult season at times, with the injury bug sometimes affecting the team, but the Warriors have not let that bother them in the 2016 season, as five individuals and two teams have qualified for the IHSA State Finals in Evanston next weekend.

Michael Schwers and Eric Weng had the best individual finishes of the day. Weng finished third in the 50-yard freestyle, and Schwers finished second in the 100-yard butterfly. Tag Lohman also qualified in the butterfly, finishing fourth. Jared Simpson rounded out the qualifying individuals with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Tag Lohman, Ethan Morse, Michael Schwers, and Weng also had a successful day, finishing third in 1:26.22, the 8th fastest time in the state on Saturday.

The same four again teamed up to qualify, this time in the 400-yard freestyle relay, finishing fifth.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Jared Simpson, Bryan Ellig, Michael Schwers, and Weng helped themselves to a fifth place finish.

The Warriors finished fifth behind champion Naperville Central. The IHSA Finals take place at Evanston High School on February 26 and 27.
