BURBANK, IL – Girls Bowling has had a lot of success over the past four years, and with that success, comes a flurry of pressure. However, Waubonsie has handled that pressure well this postseason, winning an IHSA Regional title last weekend, and now, adding an IHSA Sectional title on top of that on Saturday.

For the second straight weekend, the Warriors battled schools like Oswego, Oswego East and West Aurora, and came out on top, taking first place with a pin total of 6,248.

Senior Violet Kirk led the way as overall champion with 1,400 pins, just six points ahead of Oswego East’s Abby Ragsdale. Senior Veronica Dreyfus followed up with 1,274, then juniors Angelica Hernandez (1,232), Mirica Yancey (1,179) and Serenity Quinteros (1,163).

It was the fourth sectional crown for Waubonsie, having won the other three in 2005-’06, 2011-’12 and 2013-’14.

Along with the Warriors, Oswego, Oswego East and West Aurora all advanced to the IHSA State Finals, next Saturday at the Cherry Bowl in Rockford. Waubonsie will be seeking their sixth Top 3 finish since 2007-’08 and their third state title since 2012-’13.
