AURORA – The good news for Waubonsie Valley cross country was that they hosted Saturday’s IHSA boys and girls sectionals. The bad news was that Waubonsie Valley’s course is very difficult to run. Junior Wes Beitler was able to overcome that by finishing in the Top 20, and will head to the IHSA Finals.

Beitler finished 19th with a time of 15:29. As a team, the Warriors finished 8th. Sophomore Zach Benzinger was close behind 22nd, finishing in 15:35, missing the cutoff by only 0.4 seconds. Junior Jackson Bukala and senior John Caron rounded out the Top 40 overall.

For the girls team, Ashley Heidenrich lead the way, finishing 21st for Waubonsie. Her time of 18:30 was three seconds short of qualifying for IHSA Finals. Katelyn Mullinax and Sarah Vitro rounded out Waubonsie’s top 3 runners. The Warriors finished 9th as a team.

IHSA Finals take place on Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
