AURORA, IL – When the Warriors looked up at the time on the scoreboard following the 200 individual medley relay against Metea Valley, they were looking up at history.

Early in their meet on Thursday at the WV Aquatic Center, Waubonsie Valley boys swimming erased a 21-year-old pool record, finishing the 200 IM relay in 1:35.90. The effort eclipsed the old record of 1:36.71, set back in 1997 by St. Charles High School (before they became St. Charles East High School).

The 200 IM relay team consisted of Jared Simpson, Bryan Ellig, Aayush Deshpande and Jake Darlinger. Simpson is already in the record books in two events, the 200IM and the 100 backstroke.

The four are now setting their sights on the school record of 1:34.49, set back in 2013 by Adam Stacklin, Stephen Ernst, Kelvin Newton and Mike McWhirter.

The Warriors travel to Neuqua Valley on Thursday for a meet with the Wilcats at 4:30 p.m.
