CHAMPAIGN – Sophomore Antonio Torres was the lone representative for Waubonsie Valley’s wrestling team this weekend, and he represented the Warriors with a fifth-place finish in the 170-pound category at the IHSA State Finals.
Torres won his first two matches of the tournament, reaching the semifinals. He defeated Edwardsville’s Drew Gvillo, 9-3, then edged Evanston’s Ricardo Salinas, 3-2.
Torres then lost two straight, before taking overtime to defeat Marist’s Bobby Gaylord, 7-5, in the fifth-place match.
Torres finishes his sophomore season with a 39-7 record.
