AURORA – Warrior fans wanted to know how Waubonsie Valley girls soccer would react after Tuesday night’s 2-1 overtime loss to Neuqua Valley. It took all 80 minutes on Friday night to see the Warriors respond with a 2-1 win over Naperville Central at WV Soccer Field on Thursday night.

The Redhawks struck first with a goal in the 22nd minute, courtesy of a Liz Barker goal. The Warriors had some opportunities in the first half, but could not capitalize.

Finally, a Mollie Valek pass to Grace Setter put Waubonsie on the board in the 56th minute, tying up the contest. It wasn’t until the 89th minute that the Warriors took the lead for good, avoiding a second straight overtime game. Kennedy Metzger took a through ball from Natalie Massa to put the Warriors up late, 2-1. Sarah Young staved off a couple late shot attempts from Central to seal the victory.

Metzger and Setter both have four goals apiece on the season. Valek now has three assists on the year, and Massa earned her second assist of the season. The Warriors improved to 6-1-2 and travel to Metea Valley on Tuesday night.
