CHICAGO – Waubonsie Valley’s Akshara Arvind and Mannsha Assudani were victorious at the 2024 YMCA National Judicial Competition on August 1 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

“For several years now, our Judicial Team has been among the top squads in the State. But to have the National Champions and another Final Four appellate team finisher is really special,” said Waubonsie Valley Youth and Government head advisor Chris Wolak.

“We are incredibly proud of our Illinois delegation and their outstanding achievement,” said Amy Plummer, CEO of Illinois YMCA Youth and Government. “Their success at the National Judicial Competition is a testament to their hard work, commitment, and passion for the legal process as well as the caliber of our state program.  We are excited to see what the future holds for these talented young leaders.”

The NJC features over 300 participants from 17 states and consists of students from Youth and Government programs from across the United States. The competition highlights Illinois youth in the field of legal studies and civic engagement. Participants engage in rigorous simulations of both trial and appellate court proceedings, allowing them to gain firsthand experience in the judicial system.
