Girls Tennis Doubles’ Parranto, Cochran Headed to IHSA State

NAPERVILLE – The Waubonsie Valley girls tennis doubles team of junior Sophia Parranto and freshman Chloe Cochran are headed to the IHSA State Tournament after finishing 4th at sectionals on Monday at Neuqua Valley High School.

Parranto and Cochran, the 4th seed in the doubles tournament, won their first two matches before losing two straight in the semifinals and third place match.

On Friday, the two defeated Metea Valley’s Cosette Cannell and Aarna Raghavapudi, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, then beat West Aurora’s Jill Patel and Mia Malczyk, 7-6, 6-2.

Rain postponed Saturday’s action until Monday. Parranto and Cochran lost to Neuqua Valley’s Sophia Chiou and Kylie Tran, 6-1, 6-1, then fell to Metea Valley’s Sophia Cahue and Sarina Saleem, 6-2, 7-6.

The state tournament begins on Thursday at Buffalo Grove High School.
