Girls Track and Field Competes at Home Meet

AURORA – Waubonsie Valley’s girls track and field team went up against Metea Valley and Naperville North at Dick Kerner Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Warriors finished third overall, but had impressive performances in some events.

In the field events, junior Maria Gaponenko finished second in the shot put with a throw of 7.45 meters. Junior Sara Jones, freshman Catherine Schultz and juionr Ella Soderstrom finished second through fourth in the discus. Junior Daniella Russo took first in the pole vault with a vault of 3.12 meters. In the long jump, sophomore Mia Davidson (4.76 meters) took first place and junior Nicole Demetris took third place (4.21 meters). In the triple jump, Davidson again finished first with a jump of 10.15 meters. Demetris finished second with a jump of 10 meters.

Freshman Camille Crayton finished second in the 100-meters with a personal best :13.59. Junior Olivia Roman won the 200-meters with a :28.68. Freshman Nahvia Jent won the 400-meters in 1:03.48. In the 1600-meters, sophomore Lily Baibak finished third in 5:36.66. Freshman Katherine Heap finished second in 12:23.44 in the 3200-meters.

The Warriors compete in the Neuqua Valley Invite on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Neuqua Valley High School.
