AURORA – Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, Representative for Illinois’ 14th District, visited Waubonsie Valley on Tuesday to present senior Cole Goggio with the Congressional Award Gold Medal.
“The congressional award is something that every member of congress has the opportunity to give to higher performing, exceptional, super-involved young people in their communities,” said Underwood, “and I was so honored to be able to present the award to Cole.”
The award involves personal development, community services and physical fitness.
Goggio implemented a soap recycling program and donated the proceeds to Hesed House in Aurora. He also volunteered for the YMCA’s Learn to Swim Program. In addition, Goggio is on the Warriors hockey club and the WVHS robotics team.
“It’s important becuase our communites count on involved residents, involved volunteers, involved citizens, in order to make our community the great place that it is,” said Underwood.
