BRISTOL – Waubonsie Valley boys golf needed perfection to win, but the conditions and Neuqua Valley were just too much to handle. The Warriors did have a great showing, finishing second, at the DuPage Valley Conference tournament at Blackberry Oaks in Bristol on Monday.
The Warriors shot a team total of 322, 11 strokes behind champion Neuqua Valley.
Freshman Salil Khanduja once again led the way with a 5-over-77, which was good enough for third place, just two strokes behind the individual champion. Neuqua Valley’s Mason Dentzman and Metea Valley’s Aman Shah tied for first place.
Khanduja carded four birdies, including a chip-in on the 9th hole. However, he had trouble down the stretch of the shotgun start. “I was doing really good, until the last couple of holes,” said Khanduja. “I just hit a bad tee shot, and that cost me a lot of strokes. I left a lot out there.”
Junior Neil Gupta finished 9th with a 7-over-79, and senior Amogh Parmesaran tied for 10th with an 8-over-80.
The Warriors host Wheaton North on Wednesday at White Eagle, then prepare for the IHSA Regionals at Naperbrook on Tuesday.
