OSWEGO – Even when they were separated by three different races, Waubonsie Valley boys cross country still managed to somehow finish in a pack. Their top five racers finished within 20 seconds of each other, as the Warriors finished third at the IHSA Regionals on Saturday at Oswego East High School and advanced to Sectionals next weekend.
Due to COVID restrictions the day was broken up into three races, which split up teams and runners. However, that didn’t affect Waubonsie as their top four runners placed within five spots of each other.
Junior Aidan Oster finished 14th in 15:47.9. Senior Zach Benziger followed in 15th with a 15:50.4. Junior Jacob Tukker was close behind in 17th with a 15:53.4, and junior Angel Solis finished 18th in 15:54.3.
Junior Ethan Marshall (30th), senior Joey Sweeney (33rd) and junior Andres Perez (37th) all finished in the Top 40.
IHSA Sectionals will be hosted by Whitney Young High School at Lincoln Park in Chicago on Saturday. The competition will again be broken up into three races at beginning at 3:30 p.m.
