CAROL STREAM – Winning games was nothing new to Waubonsie Valley football, but coming from behind was. The Warriors completed a dramatic, last-minute comeback on Friday night, beating 3rd-ranked Glenbard North 29-28.
The Panthers took a 28-21 lead with 36 seconds left in the game. Twenty-two seconds later, quarterback Tanner Westwood launched a 56-yard touchdown pass to Josh LeMoine, to bring the Warriors within one. The play call for the two-point conversion came from the sideline, and Westwood executed once again on a loft pass to Charles Robinson.
“In the first half, I dropped the ball in the end zone,” said Robinson. “So I knew in the second half, I had to come out and do something, produce for my team.”
Waubonsie opened up the passing game, after being down 21-7 in the second half. Westwood connected on long touchdown passes to Eric Esch and Nate Ashford, before the last-minute TD pass to LeMoine.
