AURORA – Waubonsie Valley’s tennis team won both the singles and doubles tournaments at the IHSA Sectionals on Friday and Saturday.

Junior Hector Diaz (22-0) remained undefeated this year and swept his way through the singles tournament with four straight wins. Diaz defeated Plainfield South’s Nick Chance and West Aurora’s Lucas Van Lear, 6-0, 6-0. In the semifinals, Diaz beat Oswego East’s Pranav Kannas. Diaz won the championship with a 6-0, 6-2 win over his teammate Samayan Tayal.
In the doubles tournament, freshmen Revanth Kothapalli and Ishaan Suresh Kumar opened with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Oswego. They then defeated Yorkville, 6-0, 6-0. In the semifinals, they beat Neuqua Valley, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. They won the championship over Neuqua Valley, 6-4, 6-4.
It’s the first time that the Warriors won sectionals as a team since 2015. IHSA State Finals are May 29-31 at Palatine High School and surrounding area courts.
