BLOOMINGTON – Waubonsie Valley’s scholastic bowl team finished second in Illinois on Saturday at Heartland Community College.
The Warriors won three matches to get to the championship match before falling to Buffalo Grove, 460-370.
Led by team advisors Jill Casey, a math teacher, and Jen Golminas, a science teacher, Waubonsie started the day defeating Carbondale, 400-340, Macomb, 540-140, and Rockford Auburn, 370-290.
It’s the first time that the Warriors reached state competition, and their second-place finish was the best finish in the program’s history. The team consists of Ishaan Aggarwal, Hariharan Ananthakrishnan, Parnitha Bandla, Bishrel Batzaya, Alex Engel, Sajiv Harikrishnan, Bryce Henderson, Saye Vikram Karthikeyan, Ethan Ma, Neha Nadgauda, Vikram Narasimhan, Salil Patki, Sayan Sharma, Hamza Sheikh, Akshath Sivachidhambaram, Soham Barot and Mira Zatzenbloom.
