Warrior Hockey Sweeps Maine for West Cup

NILES – Waubonsie/Metea Hockey finished the West Cup playoffs just how they started, with a sweep. Their 3-2 win over Maine on Sunday night completed the two-game sweep to win the West Cup.

In the first period, Alex Wilder tipped in a Nate Kozari shot to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Midway through the second period, Nolan Cummings hit Jack Flood for a 2-0 lead. Maine stormed back to tie it at two apiece with 5:41 left in the second.

Both teams held serve for the third period before heading into the overtime shootout.

Goalie Justin Howard allowed two goals during regulation, but blanked Maine in the overtime shootout.

The Warriors move on to the Blackhawk Cup State Playoffs on Monday, March 4 against Fox Valley Black at Edge Ice Arena in Bensenville. Puck drop is at 6:40 p.m.
