Girls Swim Headed to State

NAPERVILLE, IL – Waubonsie’s name was called a lot at Neuqua Valley High School on Saturday, as numerous performances are bringing the girls swim team to state after placing third at IHSA Sectionals on Saturday. The Warriors finished with 164 points, behind Rosary and Oswego East.

Senior Avery Mathew had a banner day, finishing first in three events and second in another event.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Mathew, Keili Holt, Hannah Hunt and Lily Hunt won with a time of 1:45.33. Waubonsie took first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Hunt, Mathew, Paige Simpson and Emma Tinney. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Hunt, Rebecca Farber, Tinney, and Mathew finished second. Finally, Mathew capped things off with a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle.

Hannah Hunt finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Tinney finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle. Simpson finished seventh in the 200-yard individual medley.

IHSA Finals are Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21, at New Trier High School in Winnetka.
