AURORA – Like-minded students gather to play games on a weekly basis in Waubonsie Valley’s Gamers Club.
“It’s nice break from school where it’s an easy way to get together and enjoy doing the same things together without the stresses of homework on on your mind,” said Gamers Club president Ameya Sute.
Gamers Club is more than just video or screen based. Other games include Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the Gathering, card games, strategy games and more. In addition it creates a sense of community playing in person as opposed to playing online.
“It kind of emulates that feeling of like coming over to your friend’s house and playing Minecraft on the Xbox 360 together,” said Sute. “So it’s just like a nice little reminder of those times while also promoting good sportsmanship. You can see the people behind the player. In a sense, almost everyone’s your friend in this club.
Students who are interested in joining can just show up for a meeting. Gamers Club meets most Thursdays after school in the LMC.
