NAPERVILLE – As the close of the school year approaches, end of the year honors were handed out at the 2018 Midwest Media Educators Association Film Festival at Neuqua Valley High School. Waubonsie Valley’s media communication program was recognized in three different categories.
Senior Giselle Hernandez earned second place in the Documentary category for “What It Means to be Human”, a story of different perspectives of people’s hardships and how it helped shaped who they are.
Senior Braden Zinn won second place in the News Package category for his journalism story on WVTV’s sports broadcasting program.
WVTV earned third place in the Live Event Sports Coverage category for their production of Waubonsie Valley’s football game versus Naperville Central. The broadcast drew over 1,500 viewers on YouTube. One of the biggest accomplishments this year, WVTV’s sports broadcasting program has grown to over 20 students who volunteered their nights and weekends to coverage of events such as football, boys and girls basketball and volleyball.
The annual film festival is comprised of over 50 high schools in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin that compete in 16 categories.
