Track & Field’s Elliot, Ford, Rich Qualify for IHSA State

AURORA – Three Waubonsie Valley track & field athletes qualified for the IHSA State Finals on Thursday afternoon at East Aurora High School.

Junior Colin Ford qualified in the 100 meters, finishing in 5th place with a :10.94. Junior Jordan Rich qualified in the 400 meters, finishing in 6th place with a :50.37. Ishmaiah Elliott qualified in the high jump, finishing 3rd with a jump of 1.93 meters.

Sophomore Elijah Garrett earned the 9th best long jump in program history with a jump of 6.48 meters. Junior Matthew Crane earned the 12th best pole vault in program history with a vault of 4.01 meters.

“We brought a very young team to this sectional with only 6 seniors entered in the meet,” said head coach Kevin Rafferty on a Facebook post. “Good sectional meet this year and good things to come in the upcoming years, if we keep developing together as a group.”

Other Top 10 finishes included:

  • Junior Jackson Klaft – 10th in 100 meters
  • Ford – 10th in 200 meters
  • Junior Nehemiah Jones – 9th in 110 meter hurdles
  • Senior Lucas Jaime – 9th in 300 meter hurdles
  • Garrett, Klaft, Ford & junior Gavin Ali Hanlon – 10th in 4×200 relay
  • Junior Braedon Koerner, junior Tanav Chowdary, sophomore Jasdeep Grover & junior Mika Lam – 8th in 4×800 relay
  • Senior Darryl Nururdin – 8th in shot put
  • Senior Patrick Cassidy – 10th in discus
  • Senior David Rowan – 7th in high jump

IHSA State Finals are May 29-31 at Eastern Illinois University.
