
AURORA – In the first three innings, Waubonsie Valley’s regional final against West Aurora on Saturday looked like an old-fashioned pitchers’ dual with the game in a scoreless tie. However, the Warriors exploded for 11 runs in the top of the fourth en route to a 15-0 win in five innings.
Offensively, Owen Roberts (2-for-4) and Ryan Lucas (2-for-3) each had two hits. Connor Beren (1-for-3), Hiroshy Wong (1-for-3), Chris Leigh (1-for-1), Josh Hung (1-for-2) C.J. Ladaga (1-for-1), Shane Torres (1-for-2), Danny McGuigan (1-for-1), Ryan Quinn (1-for-1), Nate Cerilli (1-for-2), Addie Raines (1-for-1), and Seth Nielson (1-for-2) all added hits for the Warriors.
Nick Lambert pitched the full five innings, allowing no earned runs, while striking out four.
It was the Warriors’ seventh regional title in the program’s history (’89, ’96, ’04, ’05, ’14, ’24) and second in a row.
The Warriors advance to the sectional semifinal against second-seeded Lockport on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch at Lockport High School.
