CHICAGO – Waubonsie Valley soccer alum Sarah Griffith was selected in the third round of the 2022 National Women’s Soccer League by the Chicago Red Stars on Friday. She was the 35th overall pick.
Griffith played forward for Purdue University where she scored 26 goals in four years with the Boilermakers. She was selected as the Big Ten Forward of the Year this past season. Griffith holds the Purdue school record for most goals in a season with 16.

Griffith joins another Waubonsie alum in Vanessa DiBernardo, who was drafted by the Red Stars in 2014.
At Waubonsie Valley, Griffith was a four-year varsity letterwinner under head coach Julie Bergstrom. She was named the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Player of the Year and an All-American as a senior. In 2014, Griffith helped the Warriors to a third-place finish in the IHSA Tournament.
