AURORA – Waubonsie Valley Girls Track made a statement at the IHSA Sectionals at Metea Valley High School on Thursday night, sending six athletes to IHSA State.
The evening was highlighted by the 3200-meter run, where junior Ashley Heidenrich broke a school record with an 11:01.86. Her new time surpassed Joy Braun’s 11:12.01 in 2001. Heidenrich finished third in the event.
The 4×200 team of Faith Skeete, Alea Mitchell, Shariah Wright and Itzel Garcia won first place in 1:44.83, good enough for third best in school history. Garcia also won the 100-meter dash in :12.60.
These six athletes advance to the IHSA Finals May 16 through 18 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
