NAPERVILLE – First-year head coach Chris Hagenbaumer was so excited that it was almost as if he couldn’t wait to get to Winnetka for the IHSA Finals. The Warriors had to go through Naperville first, and walked away with three first-place performances and more state qualifiers.
Sophomore Lucas Conrads won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:37.40, Sophomore Elmer Weng won the 100-yard breaststroke in :57.46, and junior Aayush Deshpande won the 100-yard butterfly in :50.48.
Other top finishes included Conrads, 3rd in the 200-yard freestyle, Deshpande, 3rd in the 200-yard individual medley, Weng, 4th in the 200-yard individual medley, senior Brian Daugherty, 2nd in the 50-yard freestyle, senior Reilly Tremain, 6th in diving, senior Jake Darlinger, 10th in the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore Evan Villeneuve, 6th in the 500-yard freestyle, and sophomore Brian Knothe, 3rd in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In the relays, the Warriors finished second in the 200-yard medley relay (Daugherty, Knothe, Deshpande, Darlinger), third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (Daugherty, Knothe, senior Ryan Ruhde, Darlinger) and second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Daugherty, Deshpande, Conrads, Darlinger).
The IHSA Finals are February 22-23 at New Trier High School.
