NAPERVILLE – Having lost four in a row, Waubonsie needed a win and didn’t care how they got it. On Friday night, the Warriors got that win in the unique form of a walk-off error to beat Naperville Central, 1-0, at Benedictine University.
With two outs in the last half of the seventh and a 2-2 count, Matt Oliver smacked a grounder to short, where Central’s Connor Gurnik had trouble making the play. Jake Klimcak scored the winning run.
Jake Klaft and Zach Laws combine for a three-hit shutout, striking out a combined nine batters in the process.
Alex Schram went 1-for-2, including drawing the leadoff walk to start the seventh inning. Klimcak pinch ran for Schram at first. Connor Yukna and Will Isdell each went 1-for-3.
Waubonsie improved to 9-7 on the season and are back in action today against the Redhawks at for a 10:00 a.m. first pitch.
