Baseball Tops Metea Valley in Extra Innings

AURORA – Waubonsie Valley rallied from three runs down and eventually defeated Metea Valley 8-6 in eight innings on Monday afternoon.

The Warriors took the lead in the first inning when Owen Roberts scored on a Mustang error. In the fifth inning, Josh Hung singled in Roberts and Noah Pilon. Then in the sixth inning, Shane Torres singled in Connor Beren to tie the game.

The Warriors scored four runs in the eighth inning, beginning with a Hung double, scoring Nate Cerilli and Roberts. Cole Ruggeri hit a sacrifice fly to score Hiroshy Wong, then Ryan Lucas singled to score Hung.

Roberts finished 3-for-4 with three runs. Hung went 2-for-5 with four RBI. Beren went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Pilon, Cerilli, Lucas and Torres each added a hit.

Seth Gillilan went 6.2 innings, allowing no earned runs and three hits, while striking out 11. Ryan Lucas picked up the win in relief.

The Warriors have won three of their last four and host Metea Valley on Tuesday afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
