AURORA – Waubonsie Valley High School will begin it’s 50th anniversary celebration beginning in August. On Friday, the school released the outline for a year’s worth of activities to help commemorate the special occasion.

In August, the school will hold a food truck festival to open the new school year. There will be a birthday party and time capsule opening in September. In October, Waubonsie will unveil a mascot and celebrate the school’s golden gala homecoming. In November and December, the school’s media production program will release a documentary.

The planetarium will help celebrate for the month of January, and there will be a kids carnival in February. The entire school will participate in a lip dub in March and April. In May, Waubonsie will hold a land acknowledgment ceremony and create a new time capsule.

The school also released a teaser trailer on YouTube for the documentary.

“…Waubonsie is turning 50!” said Waubonsie Valley principal Jason Stipp in an e-mail to the community on Friday. “With so much history within our school community, we are excited to present to you a preview of Waubonsie Valley’s 50th Celebration along with a timeline, so you are aware of the events to come.”

“It has been a great pleasure to serve as your students’ principal this past school year,” added Stipp. “I am always grateful for your support and am looking forward to welcoming all our Warriors back for our 50th celebration this coming August.”

Waubonsie Valley opened on September 1975, and it has been Indian Prairie School District 204’s original high school since then.
