PALATINE – Boys tennis finished in the Top 10 at the IHSA State Finals this weekend. Six student athletes
Junior Hector Diaz finished the tournament with a 3-2 record. Diaz defeated Rockford Guilford in the first round before falling to Streamwood in the second round. Diaz then won two straight over Champaign Central and Stevenson. He was ousted from the tournament after losing to Edwardsville.
Senior Samayan Tayal also went 3-2 in the tournament, winning his first round matchup against Deerfield, then losing in the 2nd round to Lyons. Tayal won two straight, then fell to Stevenson to end his tournament.
In the doubles tournament, junior Revanth Kothapalli and sophomore Ishan Suresh Kumar went 1-2, winning their first round matchup, then losing two straight. Freshman Kavin Sivapunniyam and freshman Krish Dave lost two straight.
The Warriors finished in 9th place in State as a team with 15 points. It’s the second time in three years that Waubonsie Valley’s boys tennis team has placed in the Top 10. They also placed 11th in state in 2013 and 2018.
