DEKALB – Waubonsie Valley’s doubles team of junior Tisha Dubey and freshman Vaishnavi Cheedepudi finished in Elite Eight of the IHSA State Badminton Finals last weekend. The two reached the championship quarterfinals before going 1-2 in their final three matches.
Dubey and Cheedepudi won their first three matches over Evanston, Schaumburg and Deerfield. They lost in the quarterfinals to Fremd, 21-12, 18-21, 21-9. In the consolation quarterfinals, Dubey and Cheedepudi swept Joliet Central, 21-14, 21-17, then lost to Glenbrook North, 10-21, 21-14, 21-17 in the consolation semifinals.
Overall, Dubey and Cheedepudi went 4-2 in the tournament. They join Rebecca Hsu and Joyce Tsai (2004, 2006) as the only doubles teams in the program’s history to qualify for state.
