AURORA – Waubonsie Valley athletics will be inducting two individuals and one team to its hall of fame this 2024 homecoming weekend.
Matt Miller played varsity basketball for the Warriors from 1998-2001. He is currently second among career assist leaders at Waubonsie. Miller was part of the 1999-2000 team that won 21 games and a regional championship. In 2000-2001, Miller was an all-conference unanimous selection in the Upstate Eight Conference.
Bryna (Nasenbeny) Taylor was a four-year varsity tennis player for the Warriors from 2004-2008. Nasenbeny was an IHSA sectional champion in ’04, ’05 and ’06 and an IHSA state qualifier for all four years of her high school career.
The 1993 Warrior wrestling team finished second at IHSA state with a 25-1 overall team record. The team won a conference, regional and sectional championships under head coach Tom Rossiano. Team members included Jim LeDuc, who finished 4th at IHSA state, Javier Quintanilla, who finished 5th at IHSA state, Gerardo Quintanilla, Bob Ott, Ruben Saldana, Geoff Ruble, Jim Sutter, Alphonsus Olieh, and Dan Ross. They become just the sixth team to be inducted along with 2007, 2008 and 2010 girls soccer, and 2013 and 2014 girls bowling.
The Waubonsie Valley Hall of Fame recognizes athletes, teams, coaches, administrators and active supporters. To qualify, inductees must have been graduated for at least five years or have retired from their athletic-related positions.
The Waubonsie Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on Friday in the school’s cafeteria before the football game at Dick Kerner Stadium.
