Excessive Heat Watch Issued Through Tuesday Night

AURORA – An excessive heat watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Chicago area through Tuesday evening.

In an announcement on Monday afternoon, Indian Prairie School District 204 said, “Our district will consult the Child Care Weather Chart provided by the Illinois State Board of Education to assist in determining if it is safe for students to go outdoors for recess, P.E. class, or similar activities.”

The district advises parents and guardians to remind students “to wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and proper shoes. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school to assist in proper hydration throughout the day. We will also have water available for students.”

The district also says that they “are planning a regular school day schedule. As always, if you have concerns about your child, please contact their school directly.”

Some Waubonsie Valley sports and activities have already made adjustments, including boys golf, which has cancelled both their matches for Monday and Tuesday.

The National Weather Service says that heat index values are expected to be between 105 and 109. on Monday and between 110 and 115 on Tuesday throughout portions of central, north central and northeast Illinois.

The National Weather Service says that extreme head and humidity can siginificantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
