Late Surge Pushes Football Past Stagg

PALOS HILLS – Waubonsie Valley overcame two first half turnovers, and tailback Chrisjan Simmons had a monster second half, as the Warriors defeated Stagg, 28-7, in conference play on Friday night.

After a Waubonsie Valley turnover, Stagg opened up the scoring with a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.

Quarterback Colin Ford responded in the second quarter with a 10-yard touchdown run to tie the game at the half.

In the second half, it was Ford again, this time with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Josh Tinney for a 14-7 lead. From there, the Warriors fed Chrisjan Simmons. He ran for two unanswered touchdowns of 45 yards and 81 yards.

The Warriors improved to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in the Southwest Valley (Green) Conference. They’ll travel to Normal West on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
