AURORA – It’s just been Waubonsie Valley’s year in the DuPage Valley Conference. Earlier, the Warriors won the conference title for the first time since 2016. On Thursday, Waubonsie defeated Naperville Central, 10-2, in the DVC Tournament Championship.
Ryan Morton pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts.
The Warriors led 3-2 going into the bottom of the sixth, when they scored seven runs. Hiroshy Wong singled to lead off the inning, followed by two walks, a fielder’s choice, a hit-by-pitch, and another fielder’s choice. Owen Roberts singled, and Ben Ford hit a three-run home run. Sean Carroll closed out the inning with a single.
Ryan Gustaitis went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Shane Torress went 2-for-2 with two RBI, and Ryan Lucas went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Waubonsie split the season series with the Redhawks at two wins apiece. The Warriors improve to 21-9 and will travel to Romeoville on Saturday for a 10:00 a.m. first pitch. They will open the IHSA Tournament as a number two seed. They will play on Tuesday for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch at Waubonsie Valley High School.
