NAPERVILLE – Fresh off their first three tournaments, Waubonsie Valley’s Speech Team is celebrating the first half of their season.
At the beginning of the year, at the Wheaton North Technicolor Tournament, senior Sophia Morano placed 6th in Radio Speaking, senior Miranda Swartz placed 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking, and freshman Meher Sethi placed 2nd in Original Oratory. This was also Sethi’s first Speech tournament.
At the Plainfield North Fall Classic, the novices competed and sophomore Neha Jammula was a finalist in Humorous Interpretation at her first Speech competition. Her piece, Chronicles Simpkins Will Cut Your Ass, tells the story of a fourth-grader who dominates the tetherball court.
Most recently, at Neuqua’s David Scheidecker Memorial Tournament, Morano placed 4th in Special Occasion Speaking and Sethi once again placed 2nd with his Original Oratory on political moderation. Morano’s SOS discusses the decline in communication skills.
The team travels to Naperville Central’s Tournament of Roses on Saturday, December 9 and the Willowbrook High School Winter Tourney on Saturday, December 16. After winter break, the team will return with their home tournament, the Reel Thing on the Saturday, January 13. For more information, you can follow the team on Twitter at @WVHSspeech.
