AURORA – On Tuesday, Waubonsie Valley officials told students and families of the Class of 2021 to ‘save the date’ for a commencement ceremony in late May.

The ceremony will take place at Waubonsie Valley’s Dick Kerner Stadium on Friday, May 28, with rain-out dates on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30.

“Due to COVID restrictions, we need to plan differently to ensure we can honor this year’s graduates,” said Indian Prairie School District 204 Superintendent Dr. Adrian Talley. “Our high school administrators are working to develop plans that follow health department guidance while creating an event that recognizes and celebrates the Class of 2021.”

The ceremony will be live-streamed and recorded by WVTV on YouTube.

It’s the first time that graduation has been held on campus since 2001. It’s the first time that graduation has been held outdoors since 1999. Waubonsie Valley held commencement ceremonies at College of DuPage from 2002 to 2011. In 2012, ceremonies were moved to Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center in DeKalb.
