AURORA – The senior class celebrated the school year with Waubonsie Valley’s annual Green and Gold Awards on Tuesday night. Awards ranged from academic honors and scholarships to outstanding students in each academic department.
City of Aurora Fire Chief and 1990 graduate Gary Krienitz was presented as the 2018 Distinguished Alumnus award.
The school also recognized 27 students for Summa Cum Laude, those who achieve a 4.0 grade point average or better, and six students were honored as National Merit Finalists. 13 students received Memorial Scholarships, and 21 students received scholarships in other areas.
Academic departments recognized 57 students for departmental awards. Jordan Mark won the Principal’s Award. Kyle Schroeder and Arushi Singh were the Athletes of the Year. Outstanding seniors were Jackelyn Solis (Art), Cade Kenyon (Business), Danny Flores (English), Kaylee Cirko (Family & Consumer Sciences), Matthew Pakkebier (Fine Arts), Nathan Ruhde (Mathematics), Jonah Weisler (Physical Education), Yejun Kim (Science), Shaelyn Iyer (Social Studies), Jamari Wagner (Student Services), Sophia Morano (Technology & Engineering Education), Queeneth Okehie (English Language Learner) and Kiara Quaranta (World Languages).
