Nikki Giovanni to speak on MLK day in Aurora

NikkiThe City of Aurora along with the African-American Heritage Advisory Board and Aurora’s MLK planning committee will host the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration. This event will take place at East Aurora High School on Monday, January 18, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. There is free admission for this event.

Enjoy performances from students of  Aurora schools along with presentations for recognizing students who have served in the Aurora community. Additionally, the keynote speaker is poet and professor Nikki Giovanni. Giovanni’s work has proved to be very significant during the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960’s. She is also a New York Times bestselling author and a Grammy nominee.

In addition to this event, students in the community are encouraged to participate in Aurora’s MLK Day of Service. These events are a great way to be involved in the community and help further Martin Luther King’s vision. The following are locations where students can be involved in community service:
