Next year Waubonsie Valley will be restructuring the class house system. Starting in summer 2018, houses and house staff will be grouped by student last name instead of year in school. The new system will be called an Alpha House. Under the new structure, students will still have access to a dean, counselor, social worker, psychologist and secretaries but those support staff may change depending on the student’s last name.
The counseling department wants to work with our students during this transition. Because post-secondary planning and college applications are just around the corner, transition activities will start with our current juniors who will be entering their senior year in the fall of 2018. We have set aside time over the next two weeks for juniors to make an introductory appointment with their senior year counselor. These meetings are meant to be a short introduction between student and counselor that will help facilitate conversations over the summer and into next fall as application season starts. In the fall each senior student will also be schedule for a formal post-secondary planning meeting with their counselor during the months of September or October.
Counselors will be available over the summer for current freshmen or sophomores who want to make an introductory appointment with their new alpha counselor.
Juniors can sign up now for an appointment between Monday, April 16th and Thursday, April 26th. To reserve an appointment time slot, please visit WaubonsieStudent.org and complete the google survey using your student email address. At this time, meetings are for current juniors only.
