State Health Restrictions Force Cancellation of 2020 Prom, Graduation

On Friday, Waubonsie Valley High School administration e-mailed a statement to parents of Class of 2020 students, cancelling tentative prom and graduation events in July.

The statement reads:

“On Friday, June 26th, the State of Illinois moved into Phase 4 of its Restore Illinois plan. This phase includes state and local public health restrictions on large in-person events. Due to these restrictions, we are canceling prom. When we were notified that we could no longer hold our graduation at Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center, we hoped to be able to hold graduation in our stadium on July 18. Unfortunately, we must also cancel this event.

“While we know it is not a replacement for an in-person event, we hope your family had the opportunity to view the online commencement celebration earlier this month. We also hope your senior enjoyed the personal delivery of his or her keepsake box. Our staff enjoyed seeing our seniors one last time and being able to congratulate them in-person.

“Thank you for your understanding. We wish your child success in whatever they pursue this fall.

Sincerely,

Waubonsie Valley High School Administration”

Both events were also cancelled at Metea Valley High School and Neuqua Valley High School. To view Waubonsie Valley’s Online Commencement, click here.
