Parranto Wins IHSA Tennis Sectional, Warriors Finish Second

AURORA – Sophomore Lydia Parranto won four straight matches on Friday and Saturday to take the IHSA Sectional single titles at Metea Valley High School.

Parranto opened the tournament with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Yorkville’s Analiese Garretson. In the third round, Parranto again won in a sweep, this time defeating Oswego’s Mel Imbronjev, 6-0, 6-0. In the semifinals, Parranto defeated Neuqua Valley’s Jennifer Tang, 6-0, 6-1. In the championship, Parranto swept Oswego’s Savannah Millard, 6-0, 6-0. Parranto is now 19-2 on the year.

The doubles team of junior Chloe Cochran and sophomore Devi Rao finished second after falling in the championship to Neuqua Valley’s Sophia Chiou and Kylie Tran. In the second round, Cochran and Rao swept Oswego’s Lauren Headley and Emily Lilla, 6-0, 6-0. In the third round, they defeated Neuqua Valley’s Mehar Kaur and Emma Mathew, 7-6, 6-2. In the semifinal, Cochran and Rao swept Metea Valley’s Leah Liu and Lily Tang, 6-4, 6-3.

As a team, Waubonsie Valley finished second with 20 points, five points behind champion Neuqua Valley. The IHSA State Finals are October 23-25 at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. For more information, visit ihsa.org.
